How to Use PenFriend
- Select text in the editor by clicking and dragging
- A toolbar appears above your selection with the penFriend button
- Click penFriend to open the AI menu
- Choose an action or type a custom question
- Review the AI suggestion and accept or modify it

Ask Anything
Type any question or instruction about your selected text. PenFriend will understand the context and help you.
Proofread
Check your text for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity issues. PenFriend will suggest corrections.
Find Quote
Get a relevant quote about the topic you've selected. Great for adding authority or inspiration to your writing.
Rewrite
Get an alternative version of your text while keeping the same meaning. Useful when you're stuck or want fresh phrasing.
Find Synonyms
Select a single word to find alternative words with similar meanings. Only appears for 1-2 word selections.
Tone of Voice
Rewrite your text in a specific tone. This is helpful when you need to adjust your writing style for different audiences.

Tips for Best Results
- Select complete sentences — PenFriend works best with full thoughts rather than fragments
- Be specific in custom prompts — Instead of “make this better”, try “make this more persuasive” or “simplify for beginners”
- Use tone options for consistency — If writing a formal document, use “Professional” throughout
- Review suggestions carefully — AI suggestions are starting points; always review and adjust to your voice
Accepting or Rejecting Changes
When PenFriend generates a suggestion, you have full control:
- Accept — Replace your selected text with the suggestion
- Copy — Copy the suggestion to your clipboard to paste elsewhere
- Close — Dismiss the suggestion and keep your original text
You can use PenFriend multiple times on the same text. Try proofreading first, then adjust the tone — or rewrite and then proofread the result. Each action builds on your content.
